Active Smooth Poly Manual Installation Guide

A note to Windows users
It is recommended to use the setup wizard provided with Active Smooth Poly. If you encountered a problem during the setup wizard please report it to us.
If you still rather perform the installation yourself, the instructions are here.

Instructions (All platforms)
The installation is compounded of 3 stages. (The third stage is for Windows users)
Hotkey Selection: in step 2 you'll be selecting a hotkey to activate and deactivate the smooth action,
I found few usefull hotkeys, such as Q,Alt+Q,A and more. You should be aware: some of them will overrides other hotkeys,
so think about your hotkey to be chosen. In step 2 I wrote here, the assigned keys are Q and Alt+Q together, this is because
a lot of times you'll want the object to be smoothed while still rotating around it (meaning the Alt button will be pressed).
1. File copy
- WINDOWS Users:
Place all *.MEL files in your scripts directory, usually:
..\My Documents\maya\<VERSION>\scripts
Place the file ActiveSmoothPoly.mll in your plugins directory:
\Program Files\Alias\Maya<VERSION>\bin\plug-ins
- MAC OSX Users:
Place all *.MEL files in your scripts directory, usually:
/Users/[USER]/Library/Preferences/Alias/maya/x.x/scripts
- LINUX Users:
Place all *.MEL files in your scripts directory, usually:
"/home/[USER]/maya/x.x/scripts"
2. Hotkey Setup
2.1 go to Window-> Settings/Preferences-> Hotkeys

2.2 Select in the Categories table (on the left): "User"

2.3 Click on "New" button on the bottom right

2.4 Fill in the following:
Name: ActiveSmoothPress

2.5 Click Accept.
2.6 Click on the "New" button again.
2.7 Fill in the following:

2.8 Click Accept.
2.9 Go to the "Key" field on the right:
press press a key of your choice. (such as: 'q')
- select the radio button "Press"
- choose on the "ActiveSmoothPress" command in the
commands table.
- click the assign button (a warning might appear, choose to overwrite or choose another hotkey).
- Go to "key", press the same key as before and choose the "Alt" Checkbox. Click assign again.
2.10 Do the same for the Release. Go to the "Key" field on the right:
- press press a key of the same choice as in 2.6.
- select the radio button "Release"
- choose on the "ActiveSmoothRelease" command in the commands table.
- click the assign button (a warning might appear, choose to overwrite or choose another hotkey).
- choose the "Alt" Checkbox and click assign again.
3. Plug-in Setup (Windows Users Only)
- In Maya, go to Window->Setting/Preferences->Plug-in Manager.
- You should already see the file "ActiveSmoothPoly.mll". If you don't, click the browse button and locate it.
Mark it as loaded, and auto load.
Recommendation: Add two more hotkeys to the Release. The same hotkey only in CAPITAL letters, with and without the ALT button (This means TWO assignments for the "PRESS" and FOUR for the "RELEASE"). This can prevent a situation when you accidently pressed the shift or caps lock
That's it!
